As Chairman, Bart Swanson is building Summly into a global brand. Bart brings nearly 15 years of cutting-edge internet and ecommerce experience, leveraging his background leading a wide variety of major European and global organizations – as well as advising several European start-ups.
Most recently, Bart was the COO of Badoo, one of the largest Internet social dating sites - with over 35 million monthly active users and over 100 million user registrations. While at Badoo, Bart led its international growth, deployed new payment methods into over 100 countries, pushed the mobile development, and significantly increased user monetization. Prior to Badoo, Bart was Managing Director, GSI Commerce International (purchased by eBay) - a leading e-commerce and multichannel solution provider to some of the world's leading brands. At GSI, Bart was responsible for all international clients, including developing the international strategy and rollout for Toys-R-Us, and Ralph Lauren. Bart was also a GM at Amazon.com, where he was one of the key executives to establish and expand Amazon.com in Germany, France and the UK (1998-2001). While at Amazon, Bart was responsible for managing marketing, business development and launching several key product verticals including Amazon Marketplace. Prior to Amazon.com, Bart was a Managing Director at EMI Music France and spent several years with EMI Music Europe managing the worldwide back catalogue and worked for Bertelsmann AG in the Book and Music Club division.
Bart received an MBA from The Wharton School, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, was a Fellow at the Lauder Institute and has a BA in History from the University of Southern California.
